Intruder Resistance

Intruder Resistance is categorised according to INTRUDER RESISTANT STANDARD AS555

Lv1

    One man using common hand tools.
    Common Hand Tools are described as, axes, sledges, screw drivers, hammers, chisels, pry bars and wedges etc, none of which are to exceed 1.5 metres in length or 3.6 kg in weight.

Lv2

    Two men using common hand tools
    Common Hand Tools are described as, axes, sledges, screw drivers, hammers, chisels, pry bars and wedges etc, none of which are to exceed 1.5 metres in length or 3.6 kg in weight.

Lv3

    One man using common hand tools and power tools.
    Common Hand Tools are described as, axes, sledges, screw drivers, hammers, chisels, pry bars and wedges etc, none of which are to exceed 1.5 metres in length or 3.6 kg in weight.
    Power Tools are described as, hammer drills and drills to a maximum of 25mm chuck size, and power saws abrasive disc cutters to a maximum of 200mm dia, and chainsaws or sabre saws.

Lv4

    Two men using common hand tools and power tools.
    Common Hand Tools are described as, axes, sledges, screw drivers, hammers, chisels, pry bars and wedges etc, none of which are to exceed 1.5 metres in length or 3.6 kg in weight.

Physical Containment

Physical Containment is categorised according to AS-NZS 2243-3: SAFETY IN LABORATORIES

PC1

    A Physical Containment Level 1 laboratory is suitable for work with microorganisms where the hazard levels are low, and where laboratory or facility personnel can be adequately protected by standard laboratory practice.
    The organisms used should generally be classified as Risk Group 1. Specimens that have been inactivated or fixed may be handled in PC1 facilities.

PC2

    A Physical Containment Level 2 laboratory is suitable for work with material likely to contain microorganisms that are classified as Risk Group 2 microorganisms.
    If working with specimens containing microorganisms transmissible by the respiratory route or if the work produces a significant risk to humans or the environment from the production of infectious aerosols, a biological safety cabinet must be used.

PC3

    A Physical Containment Level 3 laboratory is suitable for work with carried out with microorganisms or material likely to contain microorganisms that are classified as Risk Group 3 microorganisms.
    A PC3 laboratory or facility provides additional building features and services to minimise the risk of infection to individuals, the community and the environment.

PC4

    A Physical Containment Level 4 laboratory is suitable for work with microorganisms classified as Risk Group 4 microorganisms.
    A PC4 laboratory or facility is situated in a building separate from other laboratories facilities or constructed as an isolated area within a building.

Fire Resistance

Fire Resistance is categorised according to Australian Fire standard AS1530.4 and Australian fire door standard AS1905.1

-/120/30

    120 minute fire integrity – The ability to resist flames & hot gas.
    30 minute fire insulation –  the ability to resist insulated heat (heat transfer) where the temperature cannot increase more than 180 deg C at any one point or 140 deg C on average over the ambient / starting temperature during a fire test.

-/180/30

    180 minute fire integrity – The ability to resist flames & hot gas.
    30 minute fire insulation –  the ability to resist insulated heat (heat transfer) where the temperature cannot increase more than 180 deg C at any one point or 140 deg C on average over the ambient / starting temperature during a fire test.

-/240/30

    240 minute fire integrity – The ability to resist flames & hot gas.
    30 minute fire insulation –  the ability to resist insulated heat (heat transfer) where the temperature cannot increase more than 180 deg C at any one point or 140 deg C on average over the ambient / starting temperature during a fire test.

Blast Protection

    Capable of withstanding up to 72kPa peak reflected overpressure lasting 100ms.

122

    Capable of withstanding up to 122kPa peak reflected overpressure lasting 100ms.

Wind Loading

Wind Loading is certified according to AS1170 & AS1250

    Capable of resisting a minimum wind loading of 0.5kPa.

Biosafety Level

BSL1

    This level is suitable for work involving well-characterized agents not known to consistently cause disease in healthy adult humans, and of minimal potential hazard to laboratory personnel and the environment.

BSL2

    Suitable for work involving agents of moderate potential hazard to personnel and the environment, including various bacteria and viruses that cause only mild disease to humans, or are difficult to contract via aerosol in a lab setting.

BSL3

    This level is applicable to clinical, diagnostic, teaching, research, or production facilities in which work is done with indigenous or exotic agents which may cause serious or potentially lethal disease after inhalation. It includes various bacteria, parasites and viruses that can cause severe to fatal disease in humans but for which treatments exist.

BSL4

    This level is required for work with dangerous and exotic agents that pose a high individual risk of aerosol-transmitted laboratory infections, agents which cause severe to fatal disease in humans for which vaccines or other treatments are not available.
