Creating a calm, but professional workspace

Law firm Maurice Blackburn are often dealing with people living through stressful situations. Consequently, their office design and ambiance needed to reflect a calm and professional approach to their clients – and as research has shown, using natural materials like timber and stone contribute positively to that effect.

ISM was tasked to install joinery across 7 levels of office spaces, breakout areas and conference rooms, as well as reception, lunchroom and kitchen facilities. Alongside these major joinery projects, we also created writable whiteboards, vanities, seating and stand up solid timber tables on every level of their office suites.

The striking slatted main reception desk is constructed of American oak, with a solid timber ledge and shroud constructed from 100mm slats, stacked and crossed over. It is finished with a black linoleum bench top and black ABS edging. Opposite the reception desk stands a series of large art frames holding powerful images reflecting the firm’s clientele. The frames were constructed using 2pac, clad in black aluminium with an acrylic front, and designed such that new photos can be interchanged at any time.

Adjacent to the reception desk we installed bookshelves made of MDF and finished with 2pac paint, created to house display items and awards.

The breakout space features grey bench seating with white 2pac painted shrouds and armrests, alongside waterproofed planter boxes clad with Blackbutt timber. Lunch areas also feature the same bench seating with dark grey 2pac painted window ledges. An interesting design feature in the kitchen space was the use of non-fingerprint laminate. The front of the sink space was tiled, while the splashback and bench top were built using Dekton Korus ceramic materials.

Our fitout for Maurice Blackburn employs natural and hi-tech materials, natural light and subtle great shades to create a light-filled, calm and spacious office facility designed to make both clients and staff feel comfortable and at ease.
