Drivers hitting the road between Adelaide and Queensland were in for a sight last month as ARA Products transported five oversized hangar doors to an Australian Defence Force facility up north.
ARA Products Managing Director, Stuart Harmer, said the doors have been tailor made to Defence Force specifications as part of a Government tender won by ARA Products.
“We have manufactured 25 of these oversized hangar doors since 2013 and while the basic design is standard, each product is custom built according to individual clients’ needs,” Mr Harmer said.
“This particular product is made with RHS Steel truss supports and framing, and are perfect for use when a large aesthetic finish is needed as it can be adapted to model its surroundings.”
Each door takes approximately 300 man hours to manufacture and can only be manufactured by skilled trades. The Trusses require pre-stressing and can be up to 850mm deep depending on site wind loads and specific cladding needed.
“Once completed, each panel needs to be weighed and checked to ensure the Counterweight system is balanced,” Mr Harmer said.
“Generally, the install of such a large door takes three days and can be completed by two Installers with the assistance of a rigger and crane operator. Final commissioning is carried out by a suitably qualified electrician.”
In addition to working with the Australian Defence Force, ARA Products has provided similar oversized hangar doors to Adelaide Airport for use on their helicopter storage facility as part of the air rescue squadron; the Royal Flying Doctors Service, at commercial swimming pools and where there is a need for an operable wall, as well as several carpark entries where there is high usage.
